History:
Newaygo Woodstove and Fireplace
Shop was started in 1979 when Al VanderWoude recognized
an opportunity to sell quality woodstoves using the garden space of Jensens
Flower Shop.
Al and Marilyn VanderWoude have
been in business in Newaygo, Michigan, since 1976 when they purchased an
abandoned gas station in Newaygo and remodeled it into
Van's Produce Market. They sold a lot of produce there while Al
continued in his masonry construction business. Soon the produce
market expanded into a garden center. Marilyn's love of flowers and an
opportunity to purchase Jensens Flower Ship turned the VanderWoude's in a
new direction. Al and his construction crew remodeled the building and
added a brick front, garden center, and a greenhouse.
Al
constructed many masonry fireplaces in his career and it was a natural
extension to go into woodstoves. Jensens Flower Shop and Newaygo
Woodstove operated as a unit from the same location for 13 years. Al
tired of spending his holidays delivering flowers so the VanderWoudes sold
the Flower Shop part and moved to a new location where they remained for 10
years. Eventually, the VanderWoudes needed more space. They
purchased a larger location where they are now able to sell and stock a
larger selection of stoves and spas. The also sell gas and pellet
stoves, fireplaces, and furnaces as well as all the supplies needed for
installing and burning stoves and operating hot tubs. They have been
offering UPS shipping for their customers since 1980.
